Molasses spice cookies with crackled sugary tops. Serve with a tall glass of milk!!
1 c.granulated sugar
1 tsp.ground ginger
In a large bowl, beat shortening and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Add egg and molasses; beat well.
In a separate bowl, combine flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves and allspice, stirring well. Add flour mixture 1/4 cup at a time to shortening mixture, beat on low speed, blending well after each addition. Cover and chill 1 hour.
Shape dough into 1-inch balls, and roll in sparkling sugar. Place 2 inches apart on parchment lined baking sheets. Bake at 375 degrees for 9 to 11 minutes. Tops will crack. Remove to wire racks to cool completely.
