In a large pot, over medium heat, brown hamburger, drain and set aside. In same pan sauté onions, peppers and garlic in oil or butter until tender. Add remaining ingredients, cover and simmer over low heat for 1-2 hours, stirring occasionally.
Ladle into bowls and garnish with a dollop of sour cream, shredded cheddar cheese and green onions.
Cook's Note: I like to add 1/4 -1/2 tsp. cayenne pepper for added heat!
