The whole family Loved this recipe tried it with some a1 it totally complimented the meatloaf
Daniel says
Have one in the oven now. Reduced it in half to feed just me and my brother. I also added onions.
Now going to boil some red potatoes for some garlic cream cheese mashed potatoes.
Best potatoes ever.
Cooking Mamas says
Hi Daniel, If I’m lucky enough to have leftovers (with a family of 5 it’s not always the case) I like to make Meatloaf sandwiches the next day. Those potatoes sound wonderful by the way!
Bev says
Can I make this recipe and leave it in the fridge overnight to bake the next day? Thank you Bev
Cooking Mamas says
Hi Bev, I don’t see why not. it should be fine.
Mina says
I have used your recipe and made meatloaf muffins for my Mom, she can’t use stove any more, so quick warm in the microwave and she has a healthy meal
Eilern says
Hi Daniel, your potatoes sound delicious. If possible, could you please post your recipe, thank you!
Donna Parnell says
I use beef and it is awesome
Noelle Keisler says
I would also like to make it slightly smaller, for my husband and myself. Did you just use a half a box of stuffing instead of the whole box?
Cooking Mamas says
Hi Noelle, This recipe makes 1 loaf. It makes delicious sandwiches the next day. The meatloaf will keep for 3 days in the refrigerator. Hope this helps? ~Dusty
Janice says
When I make this I use 3 small size loaf pans. I eat one and freeze the other two. Works out perfectly for just 2 people.
Cooking Mamas says
What a GREAT idea Janice!
Cheryl Kulesza says
I separate the mixture into 2 loaves, and freeze one.
Julia Suggs says
Noelle… I make a similar recipe and freeze half of it raw to cook another day. Just wrap it tight in saran then tin foil. I thaw it before cooking it. Hope this helps.
Eileen says
I used sage stuffing hope it works out ok
Cooking Mamas says
Hi Eileen, So how’d that work out for you? It sounds good to me!

Joyce says
Hi my name is Joyce and I always hated meatloaf until I tried your meatloaf I served it to my niece when she popped up and she loved it she took the rest of it home to her husband and now she makes it I added canned potatoes can carrots and canned string beans added them all together put butter on the top and it was a fabulous meal it’s my favorite meal who would have thought something so simple could taste so delicious
Rochelle says
Only used 1 pound of hamburger meat instead of 2 . Hope that’s ok . Everything else is the same
Cooking Mamas says
Hi Rochelle, The recipe calls for 2 lbs of ground meat. I would only use 1/2 a box of stuffing mix, 1/2 cup water, and 1 egg.
Lloyd creeknur says
I am now fixing this recipe but adding some chopped onion and green peppers will let u know how it turns out.
Carolyn Lane says

Cooking Mamas says
Let me know how it turns out Jane…
Renaissance Woman says
I did the same!! My teenage son loves it & so do I. The added veggies make the meatloaf more moist. I still make it without using veggies if making for sandwiches the next day.
Karen Dillon says

Cooking Mamas says
Yum, sharp cheddar cheese!?! That’s sounds amazing!!
Sandy Gurile says

Kathy caldwell says
Can you use cornbread dressing?

Hi Kathy C., I have NOT used the Stove Top cornbread dressing in this recipe, I used the chicken flavored Stove Top dressing. I’m curious to see how Kathy W.’s turned out?
Jackie says
It doesn’t turn out as well
Ginny Pickens says
I used cornbread stuffing in mine and it was good…also used A One Steak Sauce with ketchup on top.

Cooking Mamas says
Yum, That sounds fantastic Kelly!

Cooking Mamas says
I bet they’ll love it Kathy! 🙂
Tarrah says

Tarrah says

Annamarie Thiel says
Has anyone tried this receipe in a crock pot I normally make it in my toaster oven and it’s great but due to circumstances after having oral surgery I need food to be soft as possible how long would I have to cook the meatloaf using same receipe in crock pot any help would be grateful
Cooking Mamas says
Hi Annamarie, You can definitely cook this meatloaf in a Crock Pot! After combining all ingredients, shape the meat into a rectangle or oval shape to fit your Crock Pot without touching the sides. Cover and cook on LOW for 6-8 hours OR HIGH for 3-4 hours or until a thermometer inserted in the middle of the meatloaf reads 160 degrees. Enjoy! ~ Dusty
Jean says
Crock pot liner sure made for easy cleanup! Chives dressed it up!
Veronica says
Cooking this recipe now I hope my family enjoy it Thanks

Meia says
I made it like this a little over a year ago and we haven’t made it any other way since
Cooking Mamas says
Hi Meia, That’s awesome, we love it too! 🙂
Debby Pry says
I have seen in other recipes that milk was used in place of the water. Wondering how that would be?
Cooking Mamas says
Hi Debby, I think it would be fine to add milk in place of water, all you’re really doing is moistening the bread crumbs. This meatloaf is so GOOD, I hope you enjoy it! 🙂
Terri Crosby says
Love this recipe..make it frequently..my husband loves it wrapped in bacon!
Kim says
Everyone LOVES this meatloaf here too! Thanks for the recipe!
Barb D. says
We have been enjoying this meatloaf at my house for more than a year. My family used to say no to meatloaf if we had had it that month already, but not since I started using this recipe. This is also the one left over that never has to be thrown out. It is always gone the next day. Even if I make a double size!!! (I think when I double the recipe, my husband over-eats a lot the next day when the rest of us are gone.)
Linda says
Trying this recipe for the first time ever. Making it to take to a pot luck dinner tonight! Probably will also add worchester sauce.
Cooking Mamas says
Hi Linda, It’s so GOOD, it really doesnt need it! I’m sure everyone will LOVE it! 🙂
Linda Barnes says
Yummy recipe. Easy to prepare and very delicious. I added some cheddar cheese. My family loved it.
Cynthia says
Do we cover it with foil before putting it in the oven?
Cooking Mamas says
Hi Cynthia, I don’t cover mine. If you find the top is getting too brown, simply cover with foil.
Linda Barnes says
My family loved this meatloaf. My son had the leftovers for a midnight snack. Yummy!
Cooking Mamas says
Hi Linda, I’m so glad you like it! It has so much flavor, my family’s fave too!
Sherri L List says
I make this meatloaf all the time! My husband loves it! He also loves meatloaf sandwiches, so when it cools I slice it & wrap each slice individually (plastic wrap, then foil) & put it in a freezer bag! When he wants a sandwich, I thaw overnight in fridg, put it on a plate, sprinkle a few drops of water on top, cover with paper towel & microwave it for 30-45 sec. It is like you just made it!
Cooking Mamas says
That’s awesome, thanks for the tip Sherri!
Kari says
I am sort of new at the cooking thing. I’m 35 years old and have only been cooking for about a year now. For so long I didn’t really like to cook , seemed like every time I did it was an absolute disaster! Even so much as a box of Texas toast! This last year a friend of mine basically said no more this is crazy you’re going to learn how to cook! So I started by watching him and took baby steps. Now I am always on line looking for new receipts trying all sorts of new things! And to my surprise EVERYONE is ALWAYS complimenting my cooking! This meatloaf in particular is a favorite of mine as well as anyone I’ve ever made it for. I add a little onion and orange bell pepper it’s super delicious! Thank you!
Cooking Mamas says
That’s AWESOME Kari! Love your additions to the meatloaf. I tryed a lower salt version of Stove Top and it didn’t turn out as tasty. The hamburger needs to be well seasoned. Let me know If I can help you in anyway. ~ Dusty
Sally says
Was wondering if you can freeze it?
Cooking Mamas says
Hi Sally,
Yes, meatloaf can be frozen either fully cooked and cooled OR raw ready to bake. Wrap the meatloaf tightly to prevent freezer burn or contamination from raw meat. Whichever method you use, be sure to defrost the meatloaf thoroughly in refrigerator before baking or reheating. ~ Dusty
Beth says
I sub Milk for the water and use sweet baby rays bbq sauce on top. Delicious!! I am trying to freeze some this time since it’s just for two of us so fingers crossed!!
Pairs great with white and red potatoes cut in bite sized pieces, topped with butter pats and seasonall, garlic powder and pepper baked in a glass pan, covered till tender. Stir half way thru to distribute butter (I usually add more seasoning and butter when stirring, but you decided per preference.)
Cooking Mamas says
Hi Beth, That sounds delicious, thanks for sharing!
F says
This is oven meatloaf!! Not stove top!!!!
Cooking Mamas says
It’s made with Stove Top Stuffing…lol
CarolLynne Smith says
Make this often, however, I add l lb mild Italian sausage, chopped onion. No barbecue sauce. Add some Heinz 57 to the water & eggs. Cover with bottled beef gravy and bake. Best meatloaf ever.

Cooking Mamas says

Craig Noblitt says
I cooked this the way it said too and it was only medium well after a hour was disappointed everything else was done waiting on meat loaf
Cooking Mamas says
Hi Craig, I’m sorry about that. I’m at sea-level and my meatloaf was done after 1 hour of cooking. Oven temps vary too! I hope it was delicious when done?
Amanda says
I made this tonight! My husband and picky two year old daughter loved it!!!! It was really good!! I will definitely be making it again. I want to double it then divide/freeze one. If I freeze it, do I can to let it defrost before I bake it?
I am not a great cook, but I am trying to learn. I would love to know when your cookbook may come back into stock so I can order it and try some other recipes.
Cooking Mamas says
Hi Amanda, Yes, I would defrost before baking. Check back in a month or so, hopefully, I will have more stock then. Thanks, Dusty
Marcha says
Can I premix this and leave it in the fridge until I’m ready to shape and bake? How long? (It’s 9 am now, I won’t need to start baking till 6 pm) I loved serving this meatloaf when my kids were small because I could slip in peppers, onions and grated carrots, They never knew; just loved meatloaf!
Cooking Mamas says
Hi Marcha, Yes, you can make your meatloaf and place it in a pan, cover it with foil, and refrigerate until ready to bake. Remove foil before baking. Enjoy!
Rosemary says
I make 5 mini loaves and cook for about 35 min! Beef gravy on top instead of BBQ sauce , both are good though! Everyone loves getting their own loaf!!!
Cooking Mamas says
Rosemary, that’s brilliant, I love it!!
Stephanie says
What size pan did you use? It doesn’t look like a traditional meatloaf dish. Also, I made this last week and my ENTIRE family loved it! Finally, something they all like! =) I’m making it again tonight per their request.
Cooking Mamas says
Hi Stephanie, I made mine in a 9×5-inch loaf pan. I am so glad your family loved it!
Stephanie Nelson says
Oh my goodness – I’m making this for dinner again (I probably make it once a week)! This is the easiest and best tasting meatloaf recipe ever!!! Thank you fo sharing it!

My mom has been making this recipe for years but we saute onion and green pepper in lite Italian dressing and add sharp shredded cheese to the top of the meat loaf before baking.
Cooking Mamas says
That sounds fantastic!
Louanne Rozek says
Best meatloaf recipe ever! I used Savory Herb stuffing mix. Rather than BBQ sauce, I made ketchup balsamic vinegar sauce two parts ketchup one part balsamic vinegar. A sophisticated twist.
Kelly says
I really want to try this recipe! Has anyone tried it with the meatloaf mix (veal, pork, beef) or are you all using straight beef?
Cooking Mamas says
Hi Kelly, The recipe calls for beef, but I think a meat mixture would be wonderful in this recipe!
Shawn says
Oh lort……. I’m in heaven quickest easiest meatloaf ever!!! Been cooking for 49 years and I finally found this ….. thank you thank you thank you
Kathy cunningham says
I always add 1 can of tomato rice soup in place of the water it’s really good.

Amazing Turkey Meatloaf with Turkey Stovetop for Thanksgiving. Simple and Simple Delicious… Thank You!
Rick says
No onions?
Cooking Mamas says
Hi Rick, diced onions would be a great addition!
Nina says
This is a simple, good recipe… But it’s not Stove TOP if it uses an oven… I need a real stove top recipe…
Cooking Mamas says
Hi Nina, I hear ya, the title refers to the brand of stuffing mix rather than the method used to cook the meatloaf. So sorry for the confusion.
Eileen Waring says
Wonder if I can use 3 lbs of meat would the box be enough seasoning?
Cooking Mamas says
Hi Eileen, It might be, but you’ll need a bigger pan. Are you adding any veggies?
Ruby says
Why is this called stovetop meatloaf. If you bake it in oven it is not stovetop!
Cooking Mamas says
Hi Ruby, It’s called “Stove Top” because that’s the brand of stuffing used. Sorry for the confusion. I hope you liked the recipe? Let me know. Thanks, Dusty
Lyn says
I used 2 pounds groud beef, one pound ground sausage, 2 stuffings.
It was so big for just 2 of us, that I froze half the mixture for another day.
Recipe was awesome
Tracy says
Love this.. it’s the easiest and super delicious. Even better on the 2nd day, in a sandwich.
Have to point out, that 2 lbs beef will not cook in 1 hour in a regular loaf pan.
The first time I did this exact recipe but on another site (can’t find it now) It specifically said a 12×9 pan and I missed it. It took like 2 hours to cook. I’m sorry Hungry Family. 🙁
If it were prepared with 1 lb alteration, the loaf pan for 1 hour will be correct though.
Cooking Mamas says
Hi Tracy, I used a 10x5x3-inch loaf pan. (I have updated the recipe to reflect that) You can test the internal temperature with a thermometer, it should read 165 degrees. I hope this helps? So glad the family liked it!
mya says
this recipe has a title of stove top but the instructions are for the oven
Cooking Mamas says
Hi Mya, Sorry for the confusion, the name comes from the “Stove Top” dressing used in the mix.
Gene says
This has been my favorite meatloaf recipe for years. In the summer I smoke it on the grill so as not to heat up the house. I shaping it like a bunt to increase the surface area to absorb the smoke and ensure thorough cooking at the lower temperature. I use a grilling pan with holes so it doesn’t end up sitting in a pool of fat. Sometimes I cover it with a latticework of bacon. The recipe is very versatile. I’ve experimented by adding a can of roast beef hash, using a 50/50 mix of ground beef and meatloaf mix. As is or with tweaks, they all came out tasty, smoked or baked.
Debra says
I just tried this recipe and it was delicious! The only ingredient I changed was instead of water I used 1/2 cup of milk, oh and I tossed in a handful of frozen chopped onions I had in my freezer. For the topping I opted for the standard ketchup, brown sugar and mustard. This was hands down the best meatloaf I’ve ever tasted and so easy! Thankyou for this recipe.
